We compare active restoration, natural regeneration, rewilding and afforestation, assessing not only survival and growth but also forest structure, biodiversity and ecosystem services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When is active intervention preferable, and when should spontaneous processes be favoured?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which species, provenances and planting configurations increase the resilience of new forests?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How should restoration success be assessed beyond the initial establishment phase?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Approaches and methods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We use field experiments, survival and growth monitoring, regeneration surveys, structural and biodiversity assessments, remote sensing and modelling.
