About
ForestLab is the University of Milan research laboratory dedicated to forest ecology, management and restoration. We study how climate, disturbance and management affect forest structure, functioning, biodiversity and ecosystem services, from Alpine forests to urban environments.
Our work combines field surveys, long-term monitoring, sensors, dendroecology, soil analyses, remote sensing and modelling. We use these approaches to understand the processes shaping ecosystem vulnerability and resilience and to develop strategies for management, adaptation, mitigation and restoration.
ForestLab works through national and European research projects and collaborations with public authorities, protected areas, companies and civil-society organisations. Scientific research, its application to management and the communication of knowledge are treated as connected parts of the same process.
