VitiSilvA investigates the integration of trees, forests, hedgerows and shrubs into Lombardy vineyards as an agroforestry strategy to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services, improve soil functioning and support climate adaptation. The project compares vineyards associated with forests, hedgerows and isolated trees with control conditions across six wine estates in Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese.

ForestLab coordinates activities on root interactions between grapevines and woody vegetation, carbon and ecosystem-service assessment, and upscaling from field to farm and landscape level. The work integrates rhizotrons, soil properties, microclimate, biodiversity, GIS and modelling to develop operational guidance for vineyard agroforestry.
